Cruisin' the Coast | 1960 Cadillac | '47 Hudson Pickup | '49 Pontiac Chieftain | BMW CS | Buick GS

On this episode of My Classic Car, Dennis returns to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for one of his favorite shows, Cruisin' the Coast. Among the THOUSANDS of cars that show up for this week long event we check out a '49 Pontiac Chieftain, a '60 Caddy, a '72 BMW, a '47 Hudson Pickup, and a '70 Buick GS.

The Pontiac Chieftain has been in the family, new, since 1949. Fallen to the wayside and restored once again by the son, it is now a comfort cruiser. Stock looking on the outside, the interior is redone in soft new leather, and it's towing a period Scotty 10 foot camper. Fortunately it hides an LS1 Corvette engine to pull it all.
Measuring in at 19 feet 8 inches long, this '60 Caddy is a land yacht, and it doesn't even have the continental kit! Shaved and dropped on cut springs to a low ride height, it just makes it look even longer. Sporting an attractive Candy Apple with Ice Pearl color, and equipped with cruiser skirts and side pipes, the '60 Caddy makes for one great custom without having to do much to the already sexy lines, culminating in some great fins.
For Cruisin' the Coast the '72 BMW is a bit of a unique car to see. It's pretty much the entirety of the "European" section, so it stands out. Nevertheless, it's a nice Euro looking performance sedan in it's own right. In its original "Fjord Blue", the redone interior looks all original too, including the oddly comfortable rear seats.
Something you just don't see, and have to flag down when you do, this '47 Hudson Pickup is a rarity. Only made for two years, they look almost customized, but this is how they came. Chopped top, long nose, the whole body is long for a truck that doesn't include a crew cab. Oddly, it's quite tight in there actually. What isn't tight is the engine bay. Powered by a 350 small block, there's plenty of room for this, or any, engine.
Resto-modded, but not severely, the Buick GS convertible is a mean looking beauty. Upgraded with the GSX stripes, tach, and spoiler, the body overall hasn't been modded to much. Dropped a touch, and with fairly large, low profile tires, the stance is aggressive, but the interior is made for comfort, with a red hounds-tooth weave to set the buckets off right. And it's still sporting that Stage 1 455 motor with the funky ram air intake to power you up and down the Gulf Coast.

Spanning some 30 miles, food to die for, and over 5,300 cars (in 2012 and only getting bigger!) there really is no other show like Cruisin' the Coast. It's a week long party!
