THE ROSE - piano & cello cover

Have You Ever Thought Of Death As A Gift?
What comfort does it give you to think of death, not as a roadblock to life, but as a doorway to heaven? It's the door through which we must go through to inherit eternal life and all the joys of heaven. Only death can give us the gift of eternal life.

Death came through sin, Scripture says, but our heavenly Father controls death to His glory. God promises to bring good out of our sorrow. Death, though it would appear to be our greatest enemy, would in the end, prove to be our greatest friend.

The body might temporarily be the possession of cancer or evil men, but these enemies cannot prevent the soul from going to God. Only through death can we go to God (unless, of course, we are still living when Christ returns for the rapture).

That is why Christ could say, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28).

The hope that we will overcome the grave and spend eternity with God is not a desperate longing of Christians too afraid to face death. Instead, it's a rational and logical conclusion based on the Word of God.

In Ephesians 2:8, the apostle Paul is absolutely clear that salvation comes to us from God's grace, which we receive through faith (trust): "For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor and mercy) that you have been saved (actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life) through faith. And this salvation is not through your own effort, but it is the undeserved gift of God" (Amplified Bible).

Let us pray...
Our Father in heaven, although death is an everyday reality, help us to see it not as the end, but the beginning of eternal life. Thank You that death will be our glorious entrance into the joys of heaven. Help us to live like citizens of heaven now, full of conviction that will cause others to follow Christ. Help us to trust Your timing for events that are out of our control.

Thank You that it has pleased You to give us more than we could ever imagine asking for. Most of all, thank You for Christ, our Savior and Lord, to whom our service is owed. Guard our hearts from spiritual pride that tempt us to forget what Christ has done on the Cross. In His name, we pray. Amen.

("The Rose" is a classic pop song written by Amanda McBroom and made famous by Bette Midler who recorded it for the soundtrack of the 1979 film, The Rose.)
