Multiple awakenings are normal during sleep at night (and during insomnia)

When you have insomnia, it’s key to remember that waking up multiple times at night is normal, and awakenings happen more often in the latter part of the night—when sleep is lighter.

When you experience these awakenings, rather than quickly re-entering sleep, you might realize that you’re awake and begin to consciously or unconsciously feel alarmed about being awake, wondering whether or not you will fall back to sleep.

The way to deal with nighttime awakenings is to normalize them:

Remind yourself it’s okay and natural to wake up at night.

Nothing is wrong with you if you experience this, and it doesn’t need to cause panic.

With time, as you become more accepting of when you are awake and less alarmed by insomnia, you will come to experience these awakenings without a strong reaction and will be able to re-enter sleep like a normal sleeper.

If you have insomnia maintained by anxiety, I am giving away my 30-Day Reduce Sleep Anxiety masterclass for free (people paid $199 for it).

To get it, join 1000s of insomniacs in my FREE weekly newsletter Former Insomniac: http://endinsomnia.com/newsletter
