First Keel Lift Test… and Things Went Wrong | HELP! | 23ft Sharpie Design Build Sail

Prototype boatbuilding is exciting… right up until something disappoints you.

In this video, I finally test the 48V 800W keel lifting system on my 23ft Sharpie trailer yacht — using a winch I converted from 12V to 48V by changing the motor.

There’s excitement because this is a major milestone.
And there’s trepidation because I already know the winch is running too fast.

But during testing, I discover another issue I wasn’t expecting — and honestly, it’s pretty disappointing.

Still, that’s part of building a one-off prototype yacht without a team of engineers behind you. You solve problems, learn as you go, and accept that setbacks are part of turning ideas into reality.

Even with the frustrations, seeing the keel finally lifting and lowering under power makes the yacht feel another big step closer to sailing and it's a relief to find the problems now, not in the water!
