Premier ‘bad news’ Andrews blaming everyone else is ‘cowardice’: Matthew Guy
The rest of Australia must be looking at Victoria “with horror” as premier Daniel Andrews continues to shift blame despite overseeing the deaths of more than 750 people, says Mathew Guy.
“The truth of the matter is that we are in the problem that we are in today because of government policy, not because Victorians didn’t adhere to the rules of the first wave,” the former Victorian opposition leader said.
It comes as Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos resigned from her post following the premier identifying her as the person responsible for the hotel quarantine program.
Premier Daniel Andrews fronted the COVID-19 Melbourne Hotel Quarantine Inquiry on Friday and laid part of the blame of the debacle directly at the feet of Ms Mikakos, prompting her resignation the next day.
“We can’t keep on having ‘Premier bad news’ coming up there everyday and mournfully tell us how he’s going to penalise us the next day, blame us, blame the police, blame health workers, blame the federal government, blame everyone else but himself,” Mr Guy told Sky News.
“I’ve never seen the circumstance where 750 people die under the watch of state government policy and the bloke in charge says ‘it’s not my fault’.
“When he had 750 people die under his watch, he blames someone else, that’s not leadership, that’s cowardice.”
