‘I love the United States’: Amy Barrett accepts nomination to the Supreme Court

Following her nomination to the Supreme Court by President Trump, Justice Amy Barrett has pledged to serve to the best of her ability if confirmed by the Senate saying “I love the United States and I love the United States constitution”.

"If the Senate does me the honour of confirming me, then I pledge to discharge the responsibilities of this job to the very best of my ability," she said.

Justice Barrett noted the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg saying the former Supreme Court Judge “smashed glass ceilings” by working in the legal profession at a time when women were unwelcome.

“Particularly poignant to me was her long and deep friendship with Antonin Scalia, my own mentor," she said.

“Justices’ Scalia and Ginsburg disagree fiercely in print without rankour in person.

“These two great Americans demonstrated that arguments, even about matters of great consequence, need not destroy affection."
