Trump nominates Amy Barret to Supreme Court

President Donald Trump has announced Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination to the United States Supreme Court.

The President noted the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, describing the former Judge as a “true American legend” and a “legal giant”.

Mr Trump went on to introduce Ms Barrett saying, “today it is my honour to nominate one of our nation’s most brilliant and gifted legal minds to the supreme court”.

“She is a woman of unparalleled achievement, towering intellect, sterling credentials and unyielding loyalty to the constitution," he said.

“If confirmed, Justice Barret will make history as the first mother of school age children ever to serve on the US Supreme Court."

President Trump also said “this should be a straightforward and prompt confirmation; it should be very easy … it’s going to be very quick”.

“I’m sure it’s going to be extremely non-controversial," he said.
