At thirteen years old, Chase's pediatrician was conducting a physical exam when they found asymmetry in his spine. After this initial diagnosis, his scoliosis was left untreated for a few years.

After returning, Chase's doctors identified that the condition had gotten worse and would now require surgery. The medical staff that made the initial diagnosis failed to educate Chase about this problem properly. Since he was just a teenager, the curve was destined to progress rapidly every time he grew.
