Many patients want to know if scoliosis can be fixed or if there's a way to permanently cure it. Scoliosis is, unfortunately, a progressive condition, meaning there's no definitive way to fix or permanently cure it. It's a condition that needs to be managed throughout your life, with the approach depending on its size and severity. However, when scoliosis is identified early enough, and especially if it responds well to proactive treatment, it can be highly treatable.
There are two primary treatment approaches for patients to choose from: traditional treatment approaches and what I like to call conservative treatment options. Let's take a closer look at traditional scoliosis treatments. These treatments have been the dominant choices for many years, but their long history doesn't necessarily make them the only or the best treatment option. They are just one category of treatment.

The main strategy behind traditional scoliosis treatments is to intervene when the curves reach the severe stage and patients move into the surgical range, at which point surgery becomes a consideration. Unfortunately, little is done beforehand to prevent scoliosis from reaching this severe stage, and the most common recommendation is often 'watch and wait.' This approach involves no active treatment, just monitoring the curve's progression. However, it's important to note that progression is almost guaranteed in every case of scoliosis; we just don't know how much or how fast it will progress. In the adult stage, progression can occur as well, albeit at a slower rate. During this progressive stage, patients can experience worsening effects due to scoliosis.

Now, let's explore conservative treatment options and how they differ from traditional treatments. Conservative treatments, also known as functional or comprehensive approaches, start by proactively treating scoliosis when it's still small. We know that smaller curves respond better to conservative treatment and are less likely to become severe. Scoliosis is inherently progressive, but treating it early with a small curve can help counteract this progression.
Conservative treatment integrates multiple disciplines to address scoliosis on various levels, recognizing that it affects the body in many ways. The primary focus is on addressing the structural aspect of scoliosis. The rule of thumb is that if a treatment doesn't show structural improvement, it has no effect on reducing scoliosis. Conservative treatment employs specific techniques to address structural issues within the spine, recognizing that there are various factors contributing to scoliosis.

Corrective bracing is another effective treatment method during the growth stage, as it helps model the body's tissues and rib cage into a more neutral or improved alignment by gently pushing the spine into the correct position.
Finally, home rehabilitation involves custom exercises and therapies tailored to the patient's needs, allowing them to continue their treatment at home and further stabilize the spine in its corrected position.

These treatment disciplines are all focused on scoliosis and aim to address its complex nature comprehensively. General chiropractors can certainly help increase spinal flexibility, overall health, and decrease pain, but the complexity of scoliosis goes beyond general chiropractic care. Scoliosis is unique and responds differently to treatment than other spinal conditions. Therefore, it's essential to seek a chiropractor or healthcare professional with training and experience in scoliosis who can offer multiple treatment options and modalities tailored to the patient's specific needs.

At The Scoliosis Reduction Center, we value a proactive approach to scoliosis treatment. Our goal is to improve the spine's structure, making it straighter and reducing the size of the curve. We achieve this through a range of scoliosis-specific treatments designed to reduce and manage scoliosis effectively.""
