200 MILES OF YARD SALES | VINTAGE FINDS | THRIFTING FOR DEALS

SO MANY SALES AND A HAUL! | ANTIQUE & VINTAGE RESELLER SHOP ALONG | KENTUCKY HIGHWAY SALES

Kentucky's the epicenter for highway sales, the summer phenomenon where every little town along a US highway has yard and estate sales for miles and miles one weekend each summer! Delays this year left almost all of them happening one big weekend, and we fill the car with some fun vintage finds as we while away the miles.

Our first route is a “200-Mile Yard Sale” on US Highway 60, once a cross-country thoroughfare, that winds through Amish farms on the way to the town where John Audubon first drew his bird botanicals. This quaint backroad offers some delightful discoveries, and we consider Blue Willow china and an old jelly cupboard before breaking the ice buying an 1860s copper luster pitcher with blue paint.

Sturgis is our next stop, and we don't even have a motorcycle! Sturgis Antique Mall is a year-round antique destination where I filmed my first day on YouTube, but today it's the annual highway yard sales that lure me with a double-layered Viking glass vase and a fabulous fake fireplace insert that makes me very happy!

A real treasure trove appears in Morganfield, a little town with a big field full of everything from 1920s furniture to Fenton milk glass. An 80% off sale on the original prices of a Noritake lusterware butterfly bowl and a sleek 60's swung glass ewer make them too good a deal to pass!

Onwards to Henderson, where an antique shop along the mighty Ohio River has a good deal on the one thing that didn't match anything else in the shop (or in the state!)...an elaborately painted Persian processional vase. A hat fashion show along the river is the next order of business, featuring a really great orange and chartreuse feathered band perfect for a fashionista!

One last road awaits us, as we cover the western part of the Highway 68/80 sale aka 400-Mile Yard Sale. There's lots to see here, including an attack chicken guarding the barn where another antique dealer is having her retirement sale. Buying from retiring dealers can be a good way to find juried stock at good prices, which we do (including buying back a horse restaurant creamer that the dealer had unwittingly bought from my antique mall space!).

A pretty drive through Land Between the Lakes national recreation area takes us to more sales, including one where a neat old country store offers more cool vintage goods and a great Victorian carriage collection in a picturesque setting. We last longer than the sales do, so then it's home to unpack and review the haul. A fun vintage shopping day all-in-all!
