MAKING MONEY RESELLING | GATEWAY ANTIQUE MALL SHOP-A-LONG!

One great thing about doing antique shows in different parts of the country is that resellers share tips about their favorite haunts! That’s how a lead from the Petoskey, Michigan show took me to Ringgold, Georgia.

Here where the Civil War raged in 1863, a large mall full of vintage and historic items stands ready for plunder. Gateway Antique Mall is a vast emporium I’m surprised I’d never seen driving down I-75.

Barbie dolls, Legos, die-cast trucks and other more contemporary toys have value to many collectors, but make me question my friend’s lead at first. Once through that aisle, though, I begin to find true vintage goods as small as shot glasses and as large as Chevy dealer signs. 1960s Christmas angels and a Deruta jar shine, while a venerable Boy Scout sign is a truly scarce discovery.

Fun things like Neil the Frog canisters and serious antiques like R.S. Prussia bowls and whale oil lamps show that this venue has finds for a variety of collector tastes. A healthy display of McCoy pottery and a pile of vintage radios are attention getters as well.

We find enough examples of Frankoma Pottery to illustrate clues as to its age (and desirability), discuss why Occupied Japan marks please some collectors more than others, and reveal the history of the Royal family through commemoratives. As the size of this immense mall hits me, I realize that another video will be needed to show all it has to offer!

H.O. train gear, Wade Whimseys, DeSoto and Dodge hubcaps, enamel advertising signs, store counter cabinet, deer mounts, lanterns, door push, wall pockets, teepee ad figurine, copper extinguisher, electric churn, enamelware pot, bus stop sign, etc.
