Egypt's Giant King Khasekhemwy | Exploring the 4800-yr-old Tombs of Shunet El Zebib | Megalithomania

King Khasekhemwy (c.2700 BC) was the final ruler of the Second Dynasty of Egypt based near Abydos. The Shunet was built as a so-called funerary enclosure, a place where the deceased king was worshipped and memorized. It is the oldest standing mud-brick building in the world with elements relating to Saqqara. Khasekhemwy was said to have been "five cubits and three palms (eight and one-half feet) tall.” Manetho lived during he early 3rd century BC and he wrote about this giant in a book written at the request of Ptolemy II Philadelphus. In this video we also explore another funerary site called Kom el Sultan, where the tiny statuette of Khufu was unearthed (the so-called builder of the Great Pyramid) which is now on display in the Cairo Museum. We also discuss the legacy of Khasekhemwy and how he may have influenced Egyptian royalty and explore his connection to Byblos in Lebanon and the cedar wood funerary boats.
