Harvesting Wild Rice From the River

There aren't many foods that compliment wild game like cranberries and wild rice. Unfortunately, wild rice is not only expensive but IT only grows in certain parts of the country. If you are lucky enough to live near an area where it grows, I would encourage you to try to harvest some yourself. The processing part is difficult but can be done at home if a commercial processor is not available in your area.

Minnesota rules state that you must use a duck bill push pole to keep from damaging the rice bed roots. I included a link to amazon if you are looking for one that would work.
