Tree trimming chainsaw fail! A trip to the Emergency Room.

We had an F4 tornado go through our area just south of town. While the city escaped the cyclone, we experienced some strong winds resulting in some large trees being blown down. My friend and co-worker had a huge limb break off from his maple tree. Unfortunately, it landed in his neighbors driveway. On top of his two cars. The neighbor needed the trees off to file the insurance claim and to be able to clear his driveway. I volunteered my expert sawyer skills trying to save my buddy some money from the professional tree service. I had looked at the tree and it looked like the bulk of the weight was held by two large limbs that had been driven into the ground. I wasn't to worried about the other lateral limbs. They didn't appear to be weight bearing. Well,,,,,,,,I was wrong. My very first cut was was on a limb that was on top of a car. I was 3/4 of the way through the cut when everything happened at once. I felt something hit me in the back and shoulder pushing me downward as something smacked me in the face. I never even saw the log that hit me in the chin. It was that fast. I got rocked pretty hard. Feeling my chin left blood on my glove. A wipe on my shoulder didn't stop the bleeding so I looked in the van mirror. The chunk of meat hanging off my chin told me there was no doubt this wasn't a band aid fix. Off to the ER I went. My bruised ego was more painful than the injury. Really???? The very first cut!!??? What kind of logger am I?
I'm thankful it was a minor injury. It could have busted my jaw, broken teeth, or hit me in the throat. Just goes to show you, things happen in a flash of an eye. Nothing in life is guaranteed.
