How to Skate Ski the Easy Way! (V1, V2, V2A)
Skate-skiing has a reputation of "serious" or "harder." That's only from doing it wrong and wasting energy. An easy fix is imitation without skis and poles.
Read my book "New Wave Nordic Skiing!" -- it'll add fun to all your skiing! Order at my site http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/new-book-new-wave-nordic-skiing/2276/ or on Amazon or at sweet ski shops.
Learn without gear to get habits that will save you once you add the distraction of gear.
Practice my tips then watch other videos where skis and poles are used, and you'll be on your way. Best of all: take a class!
More tips for V2: Move so you don't lose balance. You could shift from foot to foot while leaving both on the ground; next, the unweighted foot can be left touching as an outrigger; finally let it lift off when you're ready. Use small "flicky" arm and foot motions and don't bob your torso much. And it's easier with light carbon poles that are on the shorter side for skating: mid-chin-height, rather than upper lip.
PS: I've been criticized that you don't lift/swing your unweighted foot behind. Of course you don't when skiing: you can't. You're wearing skis. I'm teaching timing and weight transfer. Ignore where your foot goes. Let it go where it wants! You can even leave both on the ground and just change how they're weighted! Relax!
Thanks, Jeff Potter
