SO Much to SEE in Cartagena, Colombia!

Cartagena, Colombia has a rich history perfect to explore. An old Spanish colony, this port city boasts beautiful architecture both historic and modern. We spent a day touring some of the many charming sites of this historic city.

Our first stop was Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fortress surrounding Cartagena used in the past to protect the city from invasion. This UNESCO world heritage site is a great place to get a sprawling view of the Walled City of Cartagena, and also has many tunnels to explore. Make sure to wear good walking shoes as you will likely climb many steps on your visit!

After some rearranging of our day, we decided to take an audio guide through the Walled City of Cartagena. This old town of Cartagena has much to explore, including beautiful Spanish buildings and historic sites throughout. Some noteworthy stops along the way included the beautiful Calle de Santo Domingo with gorgeous Spanish colonial-style buildings; Plaza de la Proclamacion, the noteworthy plaza where independence from the Spanish was declared in the 1800s; and Plaza de los Coches, filled with candy stalls and a great place to stop for a treat!

We ended our day along the walls to catch a beautiful view of the sunset with a cocktail in hand. What a great way to end our first day in Cartagena!
