Exploring MAUI, HAWAII - Whale Watching and Haleakala Volcano Sunset Hike in 1 Day!

Our first day in Maui, Hawaii was packed full of amazing experiences. The day started on the ocean watching humpback whales playing in the water and finished at the top of a volcano in Haleakaka National Park to see the most gorgeous sunset we have ever seen.

The morning began in Lahaina with a Humpback Whale Watching tour on a raft where we got to see so many of these majestic animals including some adorable babies! It was our first time whale watching and it did not disappoint. As a bonus, the trip included wonderful views of the island from just off the coast. After our tour we headed to the beach with lunch from Leoda's Pie Shop to try some delicious pies with a lovely view of the ocean.

After lunch we continued driving from sea level up to the highest point of island at Haleakala National Park. At the top, we hiked through the massive crater of the volcano on the Sliding Sands Trail. The barren landscape and hauntingly beautiful clouds rolling through made it feel like we were hiking on a different planet. We finished our hike at the top of the mountain where we were treated with the most stunning sunset we have ever seen. Watching the reds and oranges of the sunset over the layer of clouds shrouding the island below was an unbelievable way to end the day!
