Close-up with beautiful Matriarch Tokwe, while all the elephants take to the dam

Recently Adine and our carers joined some of the Rangers at Jabulani Safari out in the bush to share in some herd moments together. Our carers have so many wonderful stories and great insight to share about the Jabulani elephant herd and we are excited to have them start spending some time with Jabulani guests out at the waterhole to do just that - explain more about the background and personalities of all the different elephants, from the littlest, Khanyisa, to the greatest, Sebakwe.

On this day out, with our team practicing storytelling, Tokwe the Matriarch makes a beautiful appearance grazing close to the carers, brothers Godknows and Blessmore, as they talk in the background. Tokwe has some of the most magnificent tusks in the herd, long and slender and elegant, and always beautiful to marvel at.

We wanted to share these moments with you as the herd arrive at the waterhole and all spread out across the banks and water, all enjoying it in their different ways. Sebakwe spends some calm alone-time in the water before following Tokwe across the dam and through a thicket of trees.

Khanyisa stands in the protective embrace of her adoptive mother, Lundi and allomother, Kumbura. You'll see handsome Jabulani and gentle Setombe on the banks and Bubi walking in the water. Adine also comes across a nest of frog eggs and shares a giggle as she tells their tale of tadpoles dropping into the water to swim upstream and become one with the elephants.

It's a magnificent scene of these rescued elephants all enjoying the beauty and bounty of nature in our protected reserve, with the men and woman who care for them close by.
