Dog of Bay (PS2) - Game Sample
Hey, a rhythm music game with furry dogs for PS2, Japanese, and one of the singers is Hironobu Kageyama who sang multiple Dragon Ball songs and many other things (and also Minako Honda if you prefer female singers) - there's no way this game isn't incredible.
It's a pretty simple game. You progress through chapters, each with different songs and characters who perform at the establishment where the game takes place. You don't understand much of what's happening beyond the main characters' love triangle, but that's because you'll only know who these characters are and their motivations if you explore the model viewer. By entering and exiting multiple times, each character delivers a small monologue telling things about themselves, and in the last message says something directly to the player - that last part is really cool.
The gameplay part is also quite peculiar. Bubbles fall from above, but they're not exactly what you need to watch - instead, you need to watch for when a circle appears and starts closing. When it closes completely, that's when you need to press the button. There are 4 buttons: up, down, triangle, and x, so you play with both hands. The bubbles that appear first are a preview of the buttons you need to press. Additionally, on the sides there are some musical notes on a staff, which also indicate the buttons you need to press - it works as reinforcement of the information when you have to press multiple buttons in sequence.
Also, occasionally there are hidden notes where you need to press both R1 and L1 to play, which happens when two balls fly on the sides. It's a bit difficult to get the right timing to press, since the game doesn't have a good tutorial to teach all these mechanics. Actually, I learned all this by watching another video.
Overall I liked it a lot, it has few songs but they're quite varied, the last one is quite difficult, but generally on normal mode it's pretty manageable once you learn what you need to do.
This game was recently translated to English by Hilltops, I'm not sure if it's a person or a group, but anyway they have been releasing several translations of exclusively Japanese games, it's really worth checking out, here's the link to their original video:
