Client diaries: neck stiffness and upper trap pain

Meet Anmol.

Anmol came in with neck stiffness that had been gradually building over time.

It wasn't one specific incident, more of a slow accumulation after weeks of studying. Waking up with tightness, difficulty turning the head comfortably, and an ache that would creep in after long periods at the desk.

This is one of the most common presentations I see in the clinic, and it's one that often gets managed with general stretching alone. But stretching the neck without addressing why it's getting tight in the first place tends to provide relief that doesn't last.

What I find underneath most cases of persistent neck stiffness is a combination of things - limited mobility through the mid back and tight muscles around the shoulder blade and upper traps.

The approach needs to address all of it.

Here's what today's session looked like:

➡️ Neck and thoracic assessment
➡️ Manual therapy to the neck and upper back
➡️ Dry needling to the upper traps
➡️ Thoracic mobility exercises to free up the mid back
➡️ Clinical pilates exercises to address neck and mid back mobility

The goal for Anmol is to get to a point where the neck isn't something she has to manage around every day.

If neck stiffness has been something you've been putting up with, send a DM or book a session through the link in bio.
