News reaches King Henry VII and Queen Elizabeth of York that the Prince of Wales, their son Arthur had died
Arthur was the eldest son of the newly established Tudor Dynasty and heir to the English throne. Arther and his new wife had caught the “sweating sickness”, Arthur never recovered, his parents, Henry VII and Elizabeth of York were absolutely devastated.

Arthur was extremely loved by his whole family and England could have looked very different today if he had lived.

Henry VII of England reportedly received the news first, expressing genuine grief for his beloved son, Henry then sent for his wife Elizabeth of York to give her the news himself. Elizabeth and Henry reportedly reminded each other they had their younger son Henry still to take the throne and two daughters, however the grief was extreme the couple fell into each other’s arms and cried together.

King Henry VII of England and Queen Elizabeth of York would attempt to have another child, after all; the more children the more potential to expand their Tudor Dynasty. Queen Elizabeth of York became pregnant again at the age of 36, Elizabeth then died after giving birth to her final child on her 37th birthday. The baby Elizabeth had just given birth to unfortunately passed after a week, the couple had named her Katherine.

Prince Arthur was only 15 years old when he died and newly married to Catherine of Aragon.

Catherine of Aragon survived and went on to marry Henry VIII of England, the “spare” heir to the English throne.
