Baby Seal saved from RUSTY FISHING HOOK
While on seal patrol at Pelican Point, near Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, to look for potential animal rescue opportunities, Antoine and Namib_Naude from OCN (Ocean Conservation Namibia) came across a seal pup with an old rusty fishing hook stuck in its mouth.
Antoine and Naude Dreyer chased the seal down, grabbed him by the tail, and held him down to access his mouth. Even small seal babies like this one have strong and sharp teeth, both activists had to be careful to not get bitten.
Antoine uses the Leatherman tool to cut the fishing hook smaller, and he managed to pull it out from his lip without further damage. As a reward, we got to see him run bag into the ocean, without a fishing hook or fishing line attached to his little body. This part is the highlight of any animal rescue.
Even during Corona related lock down, we see entangled seals on a daily basis. Ocean pollution and plastic rubbish are everywhere, they severly affect the already small living space for our wild seals. Climate Change accelerates those dangerous trends. 🦭
