Representative James Comer, the Republican chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has urged the DOJ to pursue charges against Cuomo for statements he made during the committee's inquiry.

A spokesperson for Cuomo asserted that the former governor was not informed about any ongoing investigation, emphasizing that Cuomo is currently campaigning for mayor of New York City. Rich Azzopardi, Cuomo's spokesperson, criticized the timing of the leak, suggesting it constitutes "lawfare and election interference." The investigation was first reported by The New York Times, while the Justice Department has declined to comment on the matter.
