Catalina de Erauso: "The nun lieutenant", an extraordinary fate.
History is sometimes the setting for extraordinary characters. They are not heroes or politicians who leave marks on the collective psyche but rather quirks of human nature. The tumultuous life of Catalina de Erauso seems straight out of adventure fiction in exotic latitudes, yet written testimonies and official reports prove it. She spent only eleven years of her life in a convent as a pupil, and yet the nickname of "the nun" is attached to her name as if to underline the darker side of her personality, that of a bloodthirsty slayer.
