The raccoon dog is an animal of the size of a small dog. The native habit of the raccoon dog is forest and mountain-forest areas of Northeast Indochina, China, Japan and the Korean peninsula. From 1927 till 1957 raccoon dogs were introduced in 76 districts of the former Soviet Union in order to enrich hunting lands. In the European part they bred quickly and began to settle farther, including the countries of Western Europe.

Favorite habitats of the raccoon dog are wet meadows with marsh lowlands, overgrown floodplains and riverine forests with dense undergrowth.

The raccoon dog is active mainly at dusk and at night. By method of collecting food, it is a typical collector, inspecting all possible secluded places in search of food. It often roams in shallow waters near shores of forest reservoirs or along the seacoast.
The raccoon dog feeds on animal and vegetable food: in summer – mouse-like rodents, birds and their eggs, frogs, beetles; in autumn – oats, berries, fallen fruits, etc. It is not squeamish about carrion, dormant fish and food residues. By winter, raccoon dogs batten, so their weight increases by 2 kg or more, and they go into hibernation. The raccoon dog is the only member of canines, which hibernates in winter.

In Europe the raccoon dog is an invasive species, it has reduced the number of several native species and thus is believed to have caused and cause harm. But the man is the only one to blame, because he has settled raccoon dogs consciously, pursuing limited hunting interests without a deep scientific forecast. Anyway, this animal has become a part of our natural environment. The animal is intelligent, cautious and very interesting in its habits. We must respect the right to life of this creature, as well as representatives of other species, living around us.

The raccoon dog seldom gets into the shot. This video is filmed with the use of a fixed camera, triggered by movement. The behavior of the animal is natural and characteristic.

Енотовидная собака

Енотовидная собака — животное величиной с малую собаку. Естественный ареал енотовидной собаки — лесные и горно-лесные области северо-восточного Индокитая, Китая, Японии и Корейского полуострова. С 1927 по 1957 годы для обогащения охотничьих угодий енотовидных собак привезли и выпустили в 76 областях бывшего СССР. В европейской части они быстро расплодились и начали расселяться дальше, в том числе в страны Западной Европы.

Излюбленные места обитания енотовидной собаки — влажные луга с заболоченными низинами, заросшие поймы рек и приречные леса с густым подлеском.

Енотовидная собака деятельна преимущественно в сумерки и ночью. По способу сбора корма это типичный собиратель, обследующий всевозможные укромные места в поисках еды. Нередко она бродит по мелководью у берегов лесных водоёмов или по морскому побережью.

Питается животной и растительной пищей: летом — мышевидными грызунами, птицами и их яйцами, лягушками, жуками; осенью — зерном овса, ягодами, опавшими плодами и т.д. Не брезгует падалью, снулой рыбой и пищевыми отбросами. К зиме енотовидные собаки откармливаются, так что их масса увеличивается на 2 кг и более, и залегают в спячку. Енотовидная собака — единственный представитель семейства псовых, залегающий на зиму в спячку.

В Европе енотовидная собака является инвазивным видом, она сократила численность ряда аборигенных видов и тем самым, считается, нанесла и наносит вред. Но эта вина лежит исключительно на человеке, который сознательно ее расселял, преследуя ограниченные охотничьи интересы без глубокого научного прогноза. В любом случае это животное стало частью нашей окружающей природной среды. Животное умное, осторожное и очень интересное в своих повадках. Мы должны уважать право на жизнь этого существа, как и представителей других видов, обитающих вокруг нас.

Енотовидная собака редко попадает в объектив. Видео, которое вы видите, снято стационарно установленной камерой, срабатывающей на движение. Поведение животного естественно и характерно.
