ALPHA Particle Scattering and RUTHERFORD's Nuclear Model || Atoms - 3 || for Class 12 in Hindi

In this Physics video in Hindi for Class 12 we explained Alpha particle scattering experiment and Rutherford's nuclear model of atom. This is a topic from Chapter 12 : 'Atoms' for Class 12 from NCERT.

Ernest Rutherford suggested Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden to conduct an experiment which, today, is known as Alpha Particle Scattering Experiment. In this experiment they bombarded alpha particles from bismuth-214 into a thin (210 nm thick) gold foil. They found that most of the alpha particles pass through the gold foil undeviated. Only 0.14% of them were deviated more that 1°.

After that experiment Rutherford concluded -
(1) The positive charge and most of the mass of the atom is densely concentrated in extremely small region. This very small region inside the atom was later named nucleus.
(2) The nucleus is surrounded by electrons that move around the nucleus with very high speed in circular paths called orbits. Thus, Rutherford atomic model resembles the solar system in which the nucleus plays the role of sun and the electrons that of revolving planets.
This atomic model is known as Rutherford's nuclear model of atom.
