Electromagnetic Spectrum || for Class 12 in Hindi

In this Physics video in Hindi for Class 12 we explained what electromagnetic spectrum is and what are the different radiations are associated with it. We also explained the different ways of the production of electromagnetic waves and their usage. This topic is from Chapter 8 : 'Electromagnetic Waves' for Class 12 from NCERT.

The classification of electromagnetic waves according to frequency/wavelength is known as the electromagnetic spectrum.

But, there is no sharp division between one kind of wave and the next. The classification is based roughly on how the waves are produced and/or detected.

Processes of production of electromagnetic waves :

1. Accelerated motion of charges in conducting wires
2. Special devices, such as, klystrons, magnetrons, Gunn diodes etc.
3. Hot bodies and molecules
4. Electrons moving to lower energy level
5. Metal bombarded with high energy electrons
6. Nuclear reaction
Radio Waves :
Source : Accelerated motion of charges in conducting wires.
Usage : used in radio and television communication systems.

Microwaves :
Source : Special devices (klystrons, magnetrons, Gunn diodes etc.)
Usage : Radar systems, Microwave ovens

Infrared :
Source : Hot bodies and molecules
Usage : TV remote controller, Wi-fi system. It maintains earth’s warmth
Visible light :
Source : Electron’s jump to lower energy level. Sun, lamps are common sources of visible light.

Ultraviolet :
Source : Electron’s jump to very lower energy level (inner shell). Sun, welding arcs, UV lamps, mercury vapour lamps are some common sources of ultraviolet radiation.

X-rays :
Source : Bombarding a metal target by high energy electrons.
Usage : X-ray photography (radiography), treatment of cancer.

Gamma rays :
Source : Nuclear reactions.
Usage : Destroy cancer cells.
