A34 West Road & Clayton By-Pass, Congleton - Northbound Front View with Rearview Mirror

The A34 is one of the longest A-roads in Britain, running for 200 miles (320km) from Winchester on the south coast to Salford near Manchester, although it is now split into two halves which are joined by the M40 motorway.

The A34 runs through the Cheshire town of Congleton, although it bypasses the immediate town centre by the Clayton By-Pass, which opened to traffic in October 1956. There are junctions with the A54, A534 and A536 main roads within the town.

There are currently plans for a northern link road for Congleton, which will bypass much of the urban area itself, although it's not yet clear whether this will affect the A34 route through the town.
