A102 - Blackwall Tunnel Approach, Greenwich - Southbound

The first Blackwall Tunnel, running under the River Thames between Poplar and the Greenwich Peninsula, opened way back in 1897. At the time it was the easternmost crossing of the River Thames. By the 1960s capacity in the single tunnel was deemed inadequate, so a second tunnel was built, opening in 1967, seventy years after the first. The tunnel and its approach roads are now classified as the A102, and it turned into a major route with the upgrade of the A12 in North London, and the A2 in south London in the 1970s and 1980s. The new "Silvertown Tunnel" is under construction as of the date of this video, and will run from the Blackwall Tunnel approach near the O2 arena, eastbound under the Thames, to Silvertown near the Royal Victoria Dock.

This video shows a southbound journey along the A102, from the A206 junction in East Greenwich, South London to the A2/A207 junction.

The actual tunnel is on the previous video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdsC2eFr6jE
