Advancing with Watercolor: Masking
In watercolor painting one of the considerations that we make is where and how to preserve the white of the paper. Because watercolor stains the paper it is very difficult to return to the brilliance of the white of the paper once covered
In this video I look at one of several basic techniques available to watercolorists - masking.
As we finish our drawing we identify some shapes or lines that we would like to keep white. Over these shapes we can apply a bit of masking tape - cut to size - or draw a few lines with masking fluid.
For me the main benefits is that I can paint more freely with these shapes masked. confident that the white of the paper will return once the painting is dry and I can remove the mask.
