How the artist uses patterns to navigate complexity. I talk about developing a visual theme. The theme is the many vertical poles that adorn the canals of Venice. The Pali da Casada - the "Poles of the House" Painted in bright colors - they identify the family of the house - or at least they used to . For the artist these poles are an attraction as well as a challenge. We are good at painting repeated shapes, but not so good a repeating shapes with variation. This video gives a few strategies to working with patterns. How the artist uses patterns to navigate complexity.
