Charlotte saw 9% increase in deadly crashes in 2025, new report shows

A new Vision Zero report for 2025 shows mixed progress on Charlotte’s streets, with total crashes declining last year while severe and fatal crashes increased, raising new concerns among safety advocates and city leaders.

According to the report released this week by the city of Charlotte, overall crashes fell in 2024, but crashes resulting in serious injuries or deaths rose. The data shows that 81 people were killed in traffic crashes last year, a 9% increase from the year before.

Advocates say the numbers show a troubling disconnect between policy goals and conditions on the ground.

“Charlotte’s Vision Zero policy says human life comes first, but the reality is actually the opposite on our streets," Shannon Binns, founder of Sustain Charlotte, said. "People are dying, in the streets where they died, often remain unchanged." #News #Charlotte
