Mercedes-Benz Actros - How to check the compressor for oil ejection | W963, W964

If an increased level of oil discharge is suspected, this can easily be checked.
Bring the vehicle up to operating temperature.
Park the vehicle and secure it against independent movement.
Switch on the ignition and release the parking brake.
Tilt the cab.
Remove the soundproofing from the engine.
Remove the resonator.
Unscrew the compressed air line from the cylinder head of the compressor ...
... and check it for carbonization.
If everything is OK, unscrew the screws on the control line.
Remove the line from the compressor.
Take two sheets of white DIN A4 paper and some cardboard.
Use these to create 2 test sheets with the dimensions 130 x 160 mm.
Perform the test.
Note: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves!
Hold one of the test sheets 10 cm away from the compressed air outlet.
Push the button to start the engine and let it run at the maximum governed rpm for 60 seconds.
When the time is up, inspect the results.
The oil discharge on the left picture is OK.
If the oil discharge looks like that on the right picture, then proceed as described in the service information.
Take an aperture piece with a diameter of 7 mm from ...
... the seal and fluid quantity testing set.
Fit the aperture piece to the compressed air outlet.
Repeat the entire test procedure using a fresh test sheet.
If the oil discharge is OK, unscrew the aperture piece.
Replace the seals if necessary.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
