Lev Vlassenko plays Liszt, Scarlatti, Rachmaninoff – live 1956

This recital took place shortly after Vlassenko won the 1956 Liszt Competition in Budapest. He finished ahead of Mihaly Bacher, Lazar Berman and Liu Shikun. Two years later he would share second place with Liu Shikun at the Tchaikovsky Competition. There's a memory lapse early on here, but the playing elsewhere is brilliant and daring, particularly in the Liszt Sonata. Thank you to a friend for sending this to me.
