THE IRISH ROVERS & Scotland's Bonnie Prince Charlie's story

THE IRISH ROVERS tell the story in song of Charles Edward Louis Stuart, better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, son of deposed King James 11 of England and V11 of Scotland. In the 1745 uprising, he attempted to restore the Catholic Stuarts to the English & Scottish thrones and was defeated in Culloden in April 1746 by the army of Protestant English King William 111. After the battle, Charlie hid in the Outer Hebrides and sympathetic visiting Flora MacDonald helped smuggle Charlie, dressed as her Irish maid called Betty Burke, to the Isle of Skye.
