Jason Clare ‘surprised’ by primary vote in Dunkley by-election

Education Minister Jason Clare says he was surprised by the primary vote turnout for Labor candidate Jodie Belyea in the Dunkley by-election.

Labor has won the Dunkley by-election despite a three per cent swing towards the Liberals.

“I am surprised with the primary vote – it was a higher primary vote than I expected,” Mr Clare told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“Peta was loved by the people of Dunkley. She was a really hard-working local member and was admired by the local community.

“The fact that Jodie got more votes yesterday than Peta did 18 months ago surprised me.

“That’s a tribute to Jodie and the work that her team did on the ground.”
