Jahlon on Education: College is not always the answer

A major concern I have for the future of society, mainly American society, is the fact we press forward with this higher learning agenda and we just keep forcing students to feel if they don’t go to college they have somehow failed. This is based on trying to ensure everyone can be successful while remaining deliberately ignorant that we prepare way more candidates for the workforce each year than there are actual positions for them to take.

The worst part is we continue to lie to students and tell them if they pursue this college bound track there will be jobs for them to secure their future and then they end up being aged 22, saddled with college debt, working for $13 an hour at the local bookstore. A college degree can open doors, but there is no door that leads to automatic success.

You should watch them, you should share them with your children, nieces, nephews, little brothers and sisters, neighbor kids, anyone who is still a student.
