Alex Ovechkin's 53 Goals In 2014-15 (HD)

Arguably his best season after the slump, Ovechkin racked up 53 goals in 2014-15 for the 3rd highest total of his career. However, the season began similarly to the way the last one ended. After being on pace for 60 goals 60 games into the 2013-14 season, Ovechkin scored just 7 goals in his last 18 games and almost didn't hit 50. The decline may have begun even earlier, as he had only 21 in his last 44 games after 30 in 34. Under new head coach Barry Trotz, 2014-15 began well for Ovi, scoring 5 times in the first 4 games. But then a rough patch hit again. He went a career-high 5 games without a point, and by Christmas only had 16 goals in 34 games after scoring nearly twice as many the year before. One of Ovi's Christmas presents must have been getting his scoring touch back, as he went on a tear scoring an insane 37 goals in the final 47 games (a 64-goal pace). He hit 50 goals in March for just the 3rd time in his career. After being behind the league leaders in the first half of the season, Ovechkin finished 10 goals ahead of second-place Steven Stamkos, easily winning his 3rd straight Rocket Richard Trophy and 5th overall.

He also added 28 assists for his most recent, and likely last 80-point and point-per-game season. Of the 53 goals, a career high 25 came on the power play. Amazingly this was one of Ovechkin's only two seasons to date without a hat trick. This came despite a career best 15 multi-goal games. He could score on anyone too, lighting the lamp against 27 of the league's 30 teams.
