Alex Ovechkin's 50 Goals In 2015-16 (HD)

2014-15 was not only Ovechkin's 10th season in the NHL, it was also his last season as a 20-year-old. Luckily, age is just a number to the Great 8, and 50 must be one of his favorites. Ovechkin kicked off his first age 30 season by having one of if not his best start to a season in his career. In the first game of the season he scored one of the goals of the year, going between the legs against the Devils like he had the season before. It began a career-best 5 game goal scoring streak to start the season. Through 12 games he had 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points, the farthest into a season he was on a 100-point pace since he scored 109 in 2009-10. His 8th goal was his 483rd career goal, tying him with former teammate Sergei Fedorov for the most by a Russian-born player. 4 games and 2 coaches challenges later, Ovi scored #484 on November 19 against Dallas. He would slow down thought scoring at a first half pace very similar to year before, heading into Christmas with just one more than in 2014. But again, just like the last season, he came out of Christmas on fire, hitting 20 before the new year for the first time in 2 years. Coming off a 2-goal performance the night before that included an end to end OT winner, Ovechkin headed into the January 10th game against Ottawa with 499 career goals. There would be no coaches challenges this time, as he scored his 500th in the second period on a power play goal from his office. The goal came in just his 803rd career game, the 5th fastest all time. Only Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy, and Brett Hull had done it faster, and all had played during the 80s and early 90s in their prime, not the Dead Puck Era. To further show you just how absolutely amazing that is, he scored 500 goals faster than Phil Esposito, Jarri Kurri, Bobby Hull, Maurice Richard, and Gordie Howe, just to name a few. He is just one of 45 to ever do it, and just the 18th to do so in less than 1000 games. He finished the season in style, scoring a hat trick against the Blues in his final game to hit 50. It was his 7th 50-goal season, putting him all alone at 2nd most all time. Only Gretzky and Bossy (9 each) have scored 50 more times.
