While this is no longer a concept of the distant future, Jani suggested that AI has actively embedded itself within modern clinical analysis, medical education, and real-time patient care paradigms.

A primary highlight of the conversation centered on the real-world deployment of ambient AI tools like Suki, an epic-integrated dictation application utilized at the University of Miami. Jani explained that the software allows clinicians to focus entirely on face-to-face patient interaction rather than looking at a computer screen. The ambient technology ethically records the interaction, filtering out conversational pleasantries while accurately capturing vital clinical elements––such as line of therapy adjustments or EGFR mutation status––directly into the patient’s history of present illness and assessment plan. Furthermore, the platform is expanding to automatically suggest orders, such as complete blood counts or CT scans, for physician confirmation.

Beyond documentation, Jani highlighted upcoming data to be presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. His team evaluated the concordance of various large language models (LLMs) against expert opinions in case-based non–small cell lung cancer scenarios, examining tools like OpenEvidence and specialized ASCO AI resources. Jani also detailed collaborations with Laravel AI, using machine learning platform capabilities to perform cross-trial comparisons, meta-analyses, and statistical pipelines that reduce biostatistician workloads. Backed by institutional pilot funding from a departmental "Shark Tank" competition, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is additionally developing in-house algorithms for community outreach and phase-specific clinical trial matching.

Wrapping up the episode, both physicians emphasized the critical need for a standardized oncology curriculum regarding AI ethics, data governance, and prompt engineering. Jani showcased how incorporating LLMs into Sylvester's novel hematology-oncology bootcamp drastically minimized presentation preparation time, allowing fellows to dedicate more energy to cross-trial evaluation, precision medicine research, and advanced biomarker discovery.
