This is what the aftermath of a tragedy looks like. His name is Luke. He arrived at our rescue burned, barely able to see, and carrying the grief of a family heartbroken by the South Georgia fires. His owner was forced to sign him over after the flames claimed their house, resources, and ability to care for him. They lost everything.

It's a miracle Luke is alive. The trauma he endured is evident all over his face and body. Charred hair and splattered with red, open burn wounds. He must have been terrified, and now, he's without the only people he knows and trusts. But we have made a promise to his loving owners — who made the difficult decision to put his needs above their own — that we would help him heal. It will take time, but we will do everything we can to help him recover both physically and emotionally after this horrific event.

Luke came to us alongside a ewe companion and a wave of other displaced animals from across the street — three pot-bellied pigs, several rabbits, and cats — all survivors of the same disaster. We scooped them up, one by one, because that's what we do. We don't leave anyone behind. While we will be reuniting all the ones we can with their families, Luke will remain with us. His family has nothing left, and we can provide the care he needs to heal and eventually thrive.

We can't do it alone, though. We have just been through the worst tragedy we've ever experienced, and we were already scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of resources. Now, we need your help more than ever.
