Luna was left behind because of something that was never her fault. After a devastating accident fractured this sweetheart’s leg, her family surrendered her to the shelter. Our team has stepped up to give Luna the support she needs, but we’re struggling to balance her care with the care of all the animals already counting on us. This is urgent. A kind stranger spotted Luna limping down the street and immediately brought her to the safety of the shelter. When Luna’s family found out she was there, they rushed to bring her home—but when they were told that Luna would require urgent medical care, they hesitated. The shelter staff didn’t share with us what the family said, but we strongly suspect that they didn’t have the means to cover the level of intensive treatment that Luna needed to heal from her fractured leg. Instead, the family decided to surrender Luna to the shelter. In an instant, this baby’s world completely changed.

The owners likely had a valid reason for making the choice that they did, but our hearts are breaking for Luna. We can’t even imagine what she must be going through or how scary it must have been to be left behind for something that wasn’t her fault. When the shelter staff reached out to our team, asking if we would take on this sweetheart’s care, we immediately said yes.

Luna is now safe with our team, but that’s just the first step. The road ahead won’t be easy—or cheap—and that’s where we need your help. According to our veterinarian, Luna was likely hit by a car due to the scarring and shoulder nerve damage she endured. Her leg is now carefully wrapped, and it will be weeks or even months before Luna can be back to her normal self.
