Coral reefs
Coral reefs are limestone geological structures, which were formed by colonial coral polyps. Coral reefs are formed in transparent water with regular salinity and the temperature not lower than 20˚С. Coral reefs do not fare well in the proximity of freshwater, so none are found near the Amazon estuary in the Atlantic Ocean. The Great Barrier Reef, the largest on the planet, is located a considerable distance away from the mainland.
Coral reefs occupy less than one per cent of the World Ocean surface and yet are home to at least 20 per cent of all marine species, including fish, shellfish, worms, etc.
Until recently this bio-diversity was been hidden from human eyes. After Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Émile Gagnan invented an underwater open-circuit breathing apparatus operating on liquefied oxygen – the scuba set – the world below the surface let us in to admire its beauty. We people, however, need to remember our guest role in this underwater world. We need to be patient and grateful observers and resist the temptation to interfere or bother the sea kingdom.
The Red Sea is home to 6% of the World Ocean coral reefs. This video shows you the footage of a video camera positioned among the coral reefs of the Red Sea.

Коралловые рифы
Коралловые рифы – известковые геологические структуры, образованные колониальными коралловыми полипами. Коралловые рифы образуются в прозрачной воде с нормальной соленостью и температурой не ниже 20˚С. Коралловые рифы боятся опреснённых участков, поэтому их нет в месте впадения Амазонки в Атлантический океан, а самый большой коралловый риф – Большой Барьерный риф Австралии – расположен от берега на значительном расстоянии.
Коралловые рифы занимают менее 1% поверхности Мирового океана, и при этом служат домом, по крайней мере, для 20% всех морских видов, включая рыб, моллюсков, червей и так далее.
До недавнего времени это биоразнообразие было скрыто от человеческих глаз. Благодаря изобретению Жаком-Ивом Кусто и Эмилем Ганьяном аппарата для дыхания под водой с открытой схемой дыхания на сжатом воздухе – акваланга, подводный мир открыл для нас свои красоты. Но человек продолжает оставаться гостем в подводном мире. Нам редко удается наблюдать, не вмешиваясь и не беспокоя.
В Красном море расположено 6% коралловых рифов Мирового океана. У вас есть возможность увидеть то, что сняла камера на штативе среди коралловых рифов Красного моря.
