Britain's finest ironwork

The Eastgate clock in Chester, England, is a popular tourist attraction. It was added to the Eastgate in 1897 to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. The clock is supported on an open-work wrought iron pavilion.

It is the second most photographed clock in the UK after Big Ben. The clock's faces and mechanism were paid for by Edward Evans-Lloyd, a local solicitor and freeman of the city.

Interestingly, the clock's original wind-up mechanism was replaced by an electric mechanism in 1992 and the clock faces were restored to their original colors in 1996.
