Union Jack or Union Flag?

This particular flag is the original from the HMS Chester naval vessel. This was a light cruiser of the Royal Navy, built by Cammell Laird and originally ordered for the Greek Navy in 1914. It was launched in 1915 and entered service in May 1916, just before the Battle of Jutland.

* Armament: 10 x BL 5.5-inch (140 mm) Mk I guns, 2 x 12-pounder anti-aircraft guns (later replaced with 3-pounder guns)
* Fought at the Battle of Jutland in 1916
* Received 17 150mm shell hits and suffered 29 casualties
* Awarded the Victoria Cross to 16-year-old Boy 1st Class John 'Jack' Cornwell for his bravery during the battle

Union Jack flag, also known as the Union Flag, is the national flag of the Great Britain. The flag combines the crosses of St George (England), St Andrew (Scotland), and St Patrick (Ireland).

The modern design dates back to 1801, when the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland were united to create the United Kingdom.

The terms "Union Jack" and "Union Flag" are both used to describe the national flag of the United Kingdom. Both names are valid, and the use of "Union Jack" originates from naval usage.

The Union Jack is normally twice as long as it is tall, with a ratio of 1:2. In the United Kingdom, land flags are normally a ratio of 3:5. The flag features three-component crosses, and the white diagonal St Andrew's Cross width being 1/5 of the flag's height.
