Skillet Braised Brussel Sprouts with Bacon and Balsamic

Although native to the Mediterranean region with other cabbage species where they were grown for their edible buds. Brussels sprouts first appeared in northern Europe during the 5th century, later being cultivated in the 13th century near Brussels, Belgium, from which they derived their name.

Brussel sprouts are usually the last vegetable people will consider for a side, however when prepared right they are a delicious compliment to roast beef or steak.

RECIPE

4 slices of bacon
Brussel sprouts 1 cup per serving
1 large garlic clove
118ml (1/2 cup) chicken broth
14g (1Tbsp) butter
15ml (1Tbsp) Balsamic reduction / glaze or vinegar
