Trump 'wants to stay on the front foot' despite COVID diagnosis

President Donald Trump is returning to the White House after a short stint in hospital because he wants to give his supporters the impression he is fit and able to keep campaigning despite his COVID diagnosis, according to Cameron Stewart.

President Trump has confirmed he is feeling "really good" and has left hospital today after being treated for COVID-19.

Mr Trump's doctors said he was doing well enough to go home but "may not entirely be out of the woods yet".

The president has not had a fever in more than 72 hours and his oxygen levels are normal, they added.

"He's back" Dr Sean Conley, Mr Trump's personal doctor, said of the president's progress, adding that he had been a "phenomenal patient".

Mr Stewart told Sky News the president believes it is important the American people know he is "robust".

"Clearly the message the president wants to send is he is robust, he is strong and he is a fighter and he wants to bring his base along with him," Mr Stewart said.
