Pro Tip: Tape Trick for Perfect Kevlar Skid Plates | Tight Edges Every Time (Part 9)

Want a cleaner, tighter skid plate install? This simple trick makes a big difference.

In Part 9 of this Kevlar skid plate series, I show a technique I picked up from another install video—using tape to secure the Kevlar felt tightly against the hull while it cures.

In this video:

How wrapping the canoe with tape improves adhesion
Locking down edges to prevent gaps or lift
Why tight edges matter for durability in rocks and shoals
Wide view + close-ups of what the finished wrap should look like

This step helps ensure the skid plate cures flush to the hull, reducing the chances of catching an edge while dragging or running shallow water.

With this done, the first end of the boat is complete.

🎣 Up next: repeating the process on the other end—and putting what we’ve learned to work.
