Roaring 20s: Brooke Johns Orchestra - Take Oh Take Those Lips, 1923

Brooke Johns Orchestra (Under direction by Jack Shilkret) – Take, Oh, Take Those Lips, Fox-Trot from „Ziegfeld Follies” (Joseph McCarthy – Henry Tierney) with Vocal chorus, Victor 1923 (USA)

NOTE: Brooke JOHNS (William Brooke Johns b. 1893 in Washington DC - d. 1978 in Rockville, MD) was a singer, banjo player and bandleader. He performed in vaudeville and Broadway musicals and was also an actor, known for "That Old Gang of Mine" (1925) starring "Fatty" Arbuckle and "Manhandled" (1924) with Gloria Swanson. He retired in 1934. It is unclear why Brooke Johns' orchestra in this recording is led by Jack Shilkret - brother of Nat Shilkret, who was also bandleader and music director at Victor Records at the time. Perhaps other activities prevented Brooke Johns from personally leading his band during this session.
