Porsche 956 A Music Video Tribute

More about the real life Crasher! The Porsche 956, gobot Crasher's car mode. These clips are of the Porsche 956 racing in the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans. (956 won Le Mans that year.) It was published by youtube channel creator "Duke Video" 10 years ago and called "1983 Le Mans". I borrow them under the terms of Fair Use in a transformative way to make a music video tribute to Porsche and their magnum opus, their 'great work' the Porsche 956 and her younger sister, Porsche 962, their father, designer and creator the genius automotive engineer Norbert Singer, and their great historical achievement. This is the start of the Le Mans race, the Porsche 956 is at 0:19 in the video, and the race began at 0:36, when the safety car pulled off.

This great historical achievement is also why I used this version of "You Raise Me Up" that was recorded by Josh Groban in 2003, in this Fair Use transformative way. Norbert Singer and his Porsche 956's and Porsche 962's raised the world of car racing "to be more than it could be". The Porsche 956 forever changed the shape of race cars for all time. One way it did this was in the use of ground effect. Ground effect did exist before the 956 came out in 1982, but not like what Singer did. Under Norbert Singer’s leadership, the emergence of the 956 came with two features that were new. One was a dent the ‘Singer dent’ at the front of the underbody, and a long vaccum, which went all the way to the back of the car. The faster she goes, the stronger the vaccum becomes. As speeds increased, this pulled the 956 to the ground. And this enabled very high cornering speeds. This vaccum was so strong that in theory, you can stick a 956 upside down on a ceiling like a housefly and drive her. Upside down.

Not only did 956 do this, she and younger sister Porsche 962 (which came out in 1984 and is essentially a modified 956) became the winningest cars in racing history. It is unlikely they'll ever be beaten. The cars' list of successes is indeed impressive: five manufacturer’s and team titles, 43 individual victories at WEC races, five WEC driver’s titles, seven overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (from 1982 to 1987 with the 956 and 962 and with the 962 Dauer Le Mans GT in 1994), four IMSA titles, 52 individual victories in the IMSA races and five victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Racing champion Jochen Mass put it in a nutshell: “Thanks, Norbert, for making it possible!”

In the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche took 9 out of the 10 top spots. That's right. Not joking. Nine 956's. With the winner being a 956. Those were the final results.

These two hot ladies, the Mighty 956 and the Mighty 962, to me, have a Venus and Serena Williams vibe about them. But for car racing, not tennis. ;) Porsche with Norbert Singer truly 'raised up the world of car racing, making it more than it could be!" Using the song lyrics. And this is what I try to convey here with this song. I hope you all enjoy it.

I make these because I love Porsche 956 and Porsche 962 and I thought some people might be interested to learn some about the real car Crasher was based on. I hope some do find it interesting.

Sincerely, Jacklyn Adams (AKA 'Crasher')
